Sistema. Una trama inconveniente (System. An inconvenient plot) by Abel González Melo, was premiered at the beginning of August by the theater company Argos Teatro and will run until November of the current year.
With music by Denis Peralta, Sistema… sums up the best writings in our continent; political acidity riddled with allegories, with a fascinating plot and lucid reading mantles in beautiful but everyday texts.
The piece is part of the trilogy that began with Mecánica (Mechanics) and the leading roles are played by José Luis Hidalgo (Arturo, painter), Rachel Pastor (his wife Dora), Yailin Coppola (Sarita, Kevin’s mother) and Alberto Corona (Maikel, Kevin’s father). The cast is also made up of: Maridelmis Marin (Joanna, gallery owner) and Mariana Valdés (Greta, psychologist), all of them under the general direction of Carlos Celdrán.
The company Argos Teatro was created by its director Carlos Celdrán in 1996 and it is currently one of the most important theater companies in Cuba. This group has year-run plays per seasons. Its first production was La Tríada (The Triad), which was based on The Flies by Sartre and The Oresteia by Aeschylus.
Since its foundation, Celdrán and his group have performed dozens of plays for the public of Cuba and the world. Argos Teatro has made tours along Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Germany, Spain, the United States and Brazil. Its director was awarded with the Distinction for the National Culture (2000) and the National Theater Award (2016).
