House of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes

Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Birthplace, Granma

From Tuesday to Sunday. 09:00 AM - 05:00 PM

Very close to the Revolution Square of Bayamo, it is located the house of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, who started the Ten Years' War (1868-1878) and is considered in Cuba as Padre de la Patria (Father of the Nation).

This two-flat house was established as museum in 1979 and is the only representative of the eighteenth century in the city of Bayamo, preserving original architectural elements in its structure. Downstairs we can find valuable collections of Céspedes's personal belongings, some with references to the burning of the city in 1869 and also weapons used by Cubans during the Wars of Independence. On the second level is exhibited a varied set of furniture, china crockery and glassware, representative of the Eurasian culture widespread during the nineteenth century in Cuba.

From Tuesday to Friday, from 09:00 to 17:00.

Saturdays from 09:00 to 14:00.
