Every year, Santiago City hosts Cuban and foreigner performers during Matamoros Festival, a five-day celebration fully dedicated Son. A music festival that also pays deserved tribute to Miguel Matamoros, one of the most prominent voices of this popular gender and an old-time honored composer, famously known by his songs "Lágrimas Negras" (Black Tears) and "Son de la loma" (Son from the hill).
The best Cuban soneros, popular music bands as Los Van Van, Adalberto Álvarez y su Son, Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco, just to name a few, perform in front of more than thousand followers. The Cultural Complex Heredia is the biggest and major venue, though musical life spreads around squares, parks and centric streets.
